Рассказ об экспедиции на Кавказ на английском языке. Множество фотографий

The mountain range known as the Caucasus is over 9000 miles long and stretches from the Caspian Sea to the Strait of Kerch between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. Like the Pyrenees, much of the Caucasus range is not cleft by natural passes such as one finds in Alps. Many of the highest summits, such as Mount Elbrus, stand on spurs of the main range.

This book is a description of an expedition made by a party of climbers into the Caucasus range. Mount Elbrus was one of their goals, one that was duly achieved, but this book is more than the story of a mountain climb. Both the magnificent pictures (one of which has been awarded the Vittorio Sella Gold Medal) and the text give a fascinating picture of the life lived by the people of the region, of their homes and of the wild life -- animals, birds and flowers to be found there.

Sir John Hunt, who met the party during the course of their climb, has written the foreword.
